Aim To review the purpose and process of Initial Assessment within the assessment cycle
Learning objectives By the end of the session, participants will have:
- discussed the purpose of Initial Assessment and where it lies in the assessment process
- determined how to establish a starting point for learners
- explored different Initial Assessment tools
- set smart goals and targets for learners
- exchanged good practice with other participants

Aim To review the purpose and process of assessment and to consider the position of Diagnostic Assessment within that process.
Learning Objectives By the end of the session, participants will have:
- gained a working knowledge of the paper-based Literacy, Numeracy, ESOL and Dyslexia diagnostic assessment materials
- understood how to use the assessment feedback grids and identify individual learning goals for a learner's ILP
and either
- explored the purpose and process of miscue analysis
or
- gained a working knowledge of marking free writing and the process of feedback to learners
or
- gained a working knowledge of the processes used in the ICT version of the diagnostic assessment materials.

ESOL Core Curriculum training is a 1 day course. The training can take place at your organisation or candidates can undertake the training at the Skills for Life Development Centre. |
