Policy in action: dealing with the implications of policy initiatives for teaching and learning in the classroom

Wednesday 6th May, 5.00 – 7.00 at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road Brighton.

‘Spaces in between’ is a year-long Action Research Project, funded by CUPP and based in the Education Research Centre at Brighton University, to bring researchers and practitioners together. We aim, through events and in informal discussions between adult educators, to facilitate exchanges and development of ideas and practices over the longer term.

This third event aims to:

  • Present an overview of national research into Skills for Life;
  • Highlight regional examples of research and practice in Skills for Life delivery;
  • Explore alternative spaces for working and researching as practitioners and learners;
  • Exchange ideas and ask how we can continue in the future to develop shared practice locally as teachers and researchers.

The third ‘space’ will take place on Wednesday 6th May, 5pm – 7pm in the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton.

Yvon Appleby, Senior Lecturer from the University of Central Lancashire and a researcher on the NRDC Learners' Study, will explore with us ways of managing the demands of policy and the tensions and implications of dealing with policy initiatives in the classroom.

There will be opportunities for conversation, networking and refreshments.
