Staff skills and qualifications for embedded delivery
A training needs analysis of all staff involved in the embedded programme will identify those who are appropriately qualified in key skills or Skills for Life. The needs analysis should identify:
- Skills for Life or key skills specialist staff who need to gain a Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) approved Skills for Life certificate at level 4 in the teaching of literacy, numeracy or language (ESOL);
- vocational staff who would benefit from a Skills for Life subject-specific qualification;
- staff who require specific, discrete training in the embedding process;
- staff who require training in the Skills for Life Core Curriculum;
- key skills staff who would benefit from raised awareness of Skills for Life;
- staff who require further training in ICT or e-learning;
- staff who would benefit from coaching or mentoring;
- staff who have not yet attained level 2 in literacy and numeracy, communication and application of number, or English and mathematics GCSE;
- team development.
A training plan should be established to address the needs of the staff team, incorporating professional qualifications and specific training.
The training plan is likely to include short-term targets, such as dedicated whole-team training in embedding, and longer-term targets (for the next six months to three years) to include professional qualifications.
