The guiding principles

These are the guiding principles for embedding that have emerged from the research programme.

Principles

  1. All embedded programme planning begins with the progression needs of the learner.
  2. All embedded programme planning assumes that the functional skills of the learner underpin all vocational and academic achievement.
  3. All embedded programme planning is the responsibility of a team who work together to integrate vocational and functional skills.
  4. All parts of an embedded programme aim to develop the learner’s functional skills to the level required by the vocational curriculum and the Skills for Life or key skills qualifications.
  5. All parts of an embedded programme are quality assured by both a vocational and a functional skills specialist.
